Site description

Interstate Power and Light's Stoney Point Closed Landfill is located 0.25 miles west of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The site was a former limestone rock quarry, later used as a coal combustion residue landfill for ash generated at Prairie Creek Generating Station. The landfill stopped receiving ash in 1987 and was covered in 1992. As of 2011, there were a number of private wells within 1,000 feet and one public water supply well within 2,000 feet downgradient of the landfill. The closed landfill is located near a new housing development constructed between 2004 and 2012.
