Brandywine Ash Management Facility has 40 groundwater monitoring wells, 39 of which have been polluted above federal advisory levels based on samples collected between March 31, 2010 and August 26, 2019. Groundwater at this site contains unsafe levels of sulfate, cobalt, manganese, lithium, boron, cadmium, arsenic, beryllium, nickel, molybdenum, lead, thallium, radium, selenium, chromium, nitrate and antimony.
Site descriptionBrandywine Ash Management Facility is a dry ash management operation operated by GenOn MD Ash Management and located in Brandywine, Maryland in Prince George’s County. The Site encompasses 217 acres of which approximately 29 acres have been used to manage CCR at the Phase II cell. Phase I, Historical Area 1, and Historical Area 2 are located adjacent to Phase II and are inactive and therefore not regulated by the Federal CCR Rule.
