Site description

Interstate Power and Light Company's Marshalltown East and West Closed Landfills are located northeast of Marshalltown, Iowa. The site served as a limestone quarry before receiving ash from the Sutherland Power Station until the 1990's. According to the site's 2013 annual groundwater quality report, shallow groundwater beneath site flows to the south and west of the west landfill and radially from the east landfill. Deeper groundwater beneath the site generally flows from north to south.
